To transform closed warehouses and create places for social gatherings: that’s what NABA does together with FS Sistemi Urbani. The project has been implemented as part of NABA’s urban design courses and the aim is to imagine a new life for the former railway yards and stations in Vigevano and Legnano. The students have worked to develop memorable concepts and maximize the potential of these places. The new drawings can be seen at the Scalo Lambrate, via Pietro Andrea Saccardo 12 in Milan, from 11 to 20 March.
The exhibition “Ferrovie Urbane” will be introduced through a presentation open to the public. Guido Tattoni (Director of NABA), Umberto Lebruto (President of FS Sistemi Urbani), Lorenzo Radice (Mayor of Legnano), Andrea Ceffa (Mayor of Vigevano), Claudio Larcher (Head of Design of NABA) and Germana De Michelis (Teacher of NABA) will be present. The event will start at 17.00 on 11 March. A tour of the exhibition follows.
Railway storage stations are no longer places for storage of goods, which means that they have lost their original function. Therefore, FS Sistemi Urbani and NABA join together to change these places and restore their social value. The students in the design area have explored concepts such as “gift”, “communication”, “polluting” and “loss of time”. Iron, lighting systems, plants, recycled objects, memorable and colorful elements merge to adapt these two installations to new features.
NABA’s Germana De Michelis and NABA’s leader of the Claudio Larcher design area are the leaders of the Milan design exhibition and project. Sara Djala and Sara Millozza have coordinated and designed it. Students from the BA programme in design have created all the works.
