A special project with Hugo Boss and Adobe

Istituto Marangoni in Florence is proud to announce a unique collaboration with Hugo Boss and Adobe for DIGITAL FASHION CHALLENGE, an innovative project designed to redefine the boundaries of digital fashion design.

The partnership is an important milestone for Florence School, which brings together students’ creativity with Hugo Boss’ industry expertise and Adobe’s groundbreaking digital tools, opening new boundaries in fashion education.

The project is also Adobe’s first school initiative in Italy to promote the use of Substance 3D, strengthening the company’s commitment to digital innovation.

The collaboration gives students the opportunity to showcase their projects in a professional environment, culminating in a final presentation at Hugo Boss’ headquarters in Mendrisio, Switzerland. The winning student will receive a six-month internship at Hugo Boss 3D design team.

Hugo Boss, one of the most influential brands in the fashion industry, has made significant investments in digital innovation in recent years and is a partner in this project. Adobe, the world leader in creative software, contributed with the Substance 3D suite – innovative tools that enable designers to create hyperrealistic patterns and textures. Substance 3D has quickly become a benchmark in the industry and this project is the first time it has been used in an educational context in Italy.

Students from the third year at Fashion Design and Accessories, together with students from the Master of Fashion Design program, were commissioned to create two men’s collections for Hugo Boss’s first fully digital collection using the CLO3D and Adobe’s Substance 3D tools. The project is not only an opportunity for learning, but also a bridge to working life with practical experience and contact with important industry actors.

The project was developed in several phases, each with specific objectives aimed at giving students a deep educational experience. It started with a two-day intensive workshop at Istituto Marangoni campus in Florence. During the workshop, students received an introduction to Substance 3D and other digital tools from leading professionals. The experts included Cristina Souto Caviglia, 3D Design Team Leader at Hugo Boss and alumni from Istituto Marangoni Firenze, and Emily Bisset, 3D Technical Artist at Adobe, who provided advanced education.

During the following phase, students worked on their projects while receiving ongoing support from Adobe professionals and Istituto Marangoni Firenze Faculty during weekly briefings.

The project concluded with a final presentation at Hugo Boss’ headquarters in Mendrisio, Switzerland, where the students presented their work to a panel of professionals from Hugo Boss and Adobe.

Mayla El Mouallem Rodrigues, a master student in fashion design and accessories, was appointed the best student and will have a six-month internship at Cristina Souto Caviglias Hugo Boss 3D design team starting in October 2024.

DIGITAL FASHION CHALLENGE was a revolutionary experience for all participants and stressed the importance of digital innovation for the future fashion. The collaboration with Hugo Boss and Adobe confirms Istituto Marangoni’s commitment to preparing students for the challenges of the modern design industry by equipping them with the tools, skills and contacts needed to succeed in their careers.
