London School that opens the doors to the global fashion industry

Josefin Werndén’s passion for the fashion industry was only awakened during an internship at the Stockholm-based fashion house Toteme. Only 20 years old, Swedish took the opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse business activities of the well-known brand.

– I loved jumping between different departments and getting a complete picture of the whole company. I learned so much and learned what I liked and didn’t like, remember Josefin.

It was this practical experience that made her want to pursue a career in fashion. With the ambition to become a stylist, she began to examine various schools in London and New York, eager to study in an English – speaking environment.

Josephine’s research led her to Istituto Marangoni, a private Italian fashion and design school with campuses in Milan, Florence, Paris, London, Shanghai, Mumbai and Miami. After weighing the benefits of studying in London, and based on oral recommendations, she took the step and applied to BA in Fashion Styling & Creative Direction Istituto Marangoni London.

A well-rounded curriculum

Josefin has now been on the programme for six months and enjoys the dynamic mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the curriculum. From exploring fashion history to deepening photography, social media and styling’s fineties, she believes that this holistic approach is necessary to succeed in the multifaceted fashion industry.

It’s a mix of everything, which I really love. You learn all the different parts and how important it is to have knowledge of all the different departments and how they are connected, because nothing can work independently. You can’t have a photoshoot without a stylist or a photographer, for example. Everything goes hand in hand, and it is so important that you can work together.

What further distinguishes Istituto Marangoni is its commitment to stay at the forefront of industry trends and technological progress.

Josefin and her classmates recently explored the revolutionary effect of AI technology on various sectors of the fashion world.

“We always react to the latest trends and events,” she says. Earlier this semester we produced a magazine and I wrote about how AI is taking over the model industry, and what effects it has.

The assignment introduced Josefin to a new path of creativity, which led to a change in her career ambitions towards roles within art direction or editorial work.

London: a playground for fashion students

Living in London, a global capital of creativity, further enriches the student experience at Istituto Marangoni. The school actively encourages students to benefit from the abundance of opportunities that are right outside their door.

“We had a task during the first semester to go out into different districts and compare east and west. You get so many nice contacts that have their own brands, and everyone is so open to making contacts,” says Josefin.

The school’s commitment to developing talent extends beyond the classroom. Through platforms like Blackboard, students gain access to a variety of resources and network events, paving the way from education to a bright future in fashion.

“The school really helps us to get internships during the summer,” explains Josefin, adding that well-known fashion brands regularly visit campus to look for new talent.

– Don’t be afraid. Get out there. Istituto Marangoni is not just any school; you get a whole lifestyle. Friends, events, everything outside the classroom. They really give you the conditions for a good career in the fashion industry.
